In a significant move towards addressing the housing crisis, Ontario’s Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing, Steve Clark, has announced an additional $1 million in funding for an affordable housing project in Brantford. The project, led by Brantford’s ANC Modular, is already making a tangible impact by providing homes for individuals who have been relying on the city’s shelter system.

The construction of a 26-unit modular municipal housing project at 177 Colborne St. W. is well underway, with plans to complete it within the next three months. This much needed affordable housing development  will provide safe, secure and dignified housing to some of the City and County’s older (55+) vulnerable homeless or under-housed individuals and further serve to free up shelter spaces and help address the wait list demand for Brantford and Brant in subsequent years. This demographic accounts for 40% of the waitlist, comprising over 1,700 households, some of whom have been waiting for up to a decade for an affordable housing unit.

The project is a beacon of hope for these individuals, offering rent geared to income and featuring four barrier-free units. The first floor of the building will be dedicated to commercial use, addressing a range of community needs.

Steve Clark, during his visit to the project site, praised the City of Brantford for their dedication to providing more affordable housing opportunities. He emphasized that this project will make a real difference in the lives of individuals and ensure that everyone has a safe and secure place to call home.

With the additional $1 million funding, the province’s total contribution to the $5.5-million project now stands at $2.25 million, reinforcing the government’s commitment to accessible housing for all. The project exemplifies how a collaborative effort between governments and private sector partners can effectively address pressing social challenges.

ANC Modular’s pivotal role in constructing the project’s components showcases their commitment to delivering innovative housing solutions. This project signifies a brighter future for those in need of affordable housing, reflecting the commitment of various government levels to making projects like these a reality.
